Priorities
My career in teaching and educational leadership have shaped my belief that students thrive when educators are supported, every student knows they belong, and resources are used responsibly. I’m running to bring those commitments to OUSD. That means keeping learning at the center of board decisions, supporting safe and welcoming schools, and asking how programs and spending improve students’ opportunities and outcomes. My approach is grounded in listening to our school communities, explaining decisions clearly, and being accountable for how public dollars support our students.
We owe every OUSD student a stronger math and literacy foundation. Effective teaching, bilingual and special education, and personalized academic planning help students build skills and thrive through academics, arts, athletics, and clubs. These investments can make our schools families’ first choice and strengthen enrollment.
OUSD schools must be places students want to be. We must connect learning to students’ interests, lives, and futures. I support A–G course completion, career technical education, and environmental literacy. Our teachers need practical training to understand AI and use it responsibly to strengthen teaching and learning.
OUSD must confront behavior challenges, bullying, and discrimination so students can learn and prepare for their futures. I support safety plans, clean facilities, mental health services, and behavioral supports that improve attendance, participation, and academic progress while helping every student feel safe, connected, and respected.
OUSD must prioritize taxpayer dollars for schools and classrooms. I support transparent budgets and regular reviews of whether programs and investments improve learning. We must use that evidence to guide spending, direct resources toward student needs, and protect the district’s long-term financial stability.
Our Candidate
A former public-school teacher, Dr. Joey Pearson is a director of professional learning with a clear purpose: better outcomes for Oceanside students. He is running for OUSD School Board Area 3 to grow enrollment and make college and career readiness the standard for every student. His priorities are clear: put learning first, demand responsible financial stewardship, and strengthen schools where every student belongs and can build the future they choose.
Joey began his career as a public school teacher and has spent his professional life supporting educators, strengthening learning programs, and helping adults and students build skills for the future. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership and brings experience in teaching, professional learning, AI, and community engagement.
Joey commits to be a familiar face in OUSD schools. He will listen closely to students, families, and educators and ask district leaders tough questions about learning, spending, and results. He stands firmly for every student’s right to learn, belong, and prepare for the future. Joey will hold himself accountable for showing up and following through.
